I see. I was typing as you posted.

Natural gas is cheaper, burns hotter, supply never runs out. EVERYBODY I know said so glad they switched when available to them. We have a propane furnace, but rarely use it. Only couple times to make sure all is well. We burn wood as our heat source. Renewable energy. 😉 Everything else electric for us. If we ever get the chance, I will hook to natural gas on day one.

I'd hook to Natural Gas if it was an option. There is a pellet stove (well, it's an insert) in the house, so that will get used as often as possible. A 40# bag will last a day. BUT the furthest reaches of the house are probably cool when using it so the central furnace blower would need to be used.

I own the tanks, last fill was 2 years ago. Furnace in the house, hanging furnace in the pole barn, water heater and dryer are gas. Stove is electric.

Run the pellet stove, and turn the furnace fan only on. It will circulate and even out the entire house. Its takes awhile but works. I know 2 hvac guys that run the fan to circulate air 24/7 365.

You think that’d help push the warm air upstairs? We burn quite a bit of wood, so the main level stays nice and warm, but once we go to bed at night the upstairs is way cooler.

It will if you have cold air returns up stairs as well as just heat runs. The air just has to recirculate.

My buddy helped me put a fan in one end and a grate in the other end of our 2 story farm house. Closing the upstairs door, it exchanges the air top to bottom. Works pretty slick!
