I took one shot with my Mossberg at 40 yards and it's still on. I put a couple cameras out and a ground blind. I may put out another blind later.

I bought all our licenses and stamps Friday.
The girls each got semi-auto 20 gauge shotguns for Christmas. The younger daughter wants to hunt this year, the older daughter does not. Anyway, we got the girls guns out yesterday and they did a bit of shooting. The younger daughter doesn't have enough hand strength to load and cycle her gun, but was hitting a softball sized reactive target every time at 30 yards with the Carlson turkey choke installed. The older daughter likes to shoot and did good as well.
We were just using 7.5 shot small game loads, the turkey loads I ordered haven't come in yet.
My wife has also decided she wants to hunt turkeys this year. We're going to have to practice a lot. She was shooting a 20 gauge also, with several thick layers on, and still was struggling with the recoil. Mostly the fear of it, not the actual pain. I think she's just going to have to burn through a lot of shells to get over that.
There is quite a bit of sign in the more open areas of our woods, and they're on trail cam pretty regular, so I think we'll have several to hunt. I'll wait a couple more weeks before I haul a blind, some chairs, and a buddy heater out and get it all set up.

Although I didn't see any birds in my few hours out there, I did see a few tracks. I did a little fishing in the pond and disturbed a pair of Canadian geese. I was hoping that their honking would stir up a gobble but, none heard.

The day they turkey hunted he never told his son that he loaded the gun with a high brass turkey load. The young man killed his first turkey and was so excited he never even noticed the fact that that high brass shell kicked.

We did some more shooting today. After they were done, I shot some of the Remington Nitros out of my daughter's 20 guage. Pretty much a golf ball group at 10 yards, really good pattern at 20 and 30, starting to get iffy at 40. Best case would be about 20-25 yard shots. Probably won't let her shoot past 35 or so. We'll be in the woods, so it shouldn't be an issue.
For fun, I also shot some out my H&R with a modified choke, fixed. It did good at 10 and 20, way too wide by 30. I may have my wife use that one and just keep shots within 20 yards.

Hunting public ground this year so I had to get non toxic shot. Yikes tungsten is outrageous on the price! Also got a new choke to shoot tss through. Gonna fire a few rounds off to see how it patterns at 10, 30 and 50 yds.

But regardless, the real question, is have you gathered your all-natural face paint for opening day?!

I had to go check ion that one myself as well. Don’t hunt any fwa’s anymore, so I’m good to go.
So is it turkey droppings for turkey season?

Wow federal premium tss loads through a carlsons tss turkey choke are nasty out of my mossberg 500! Just about $15 a shot but I'm here to tell you one could easily shoot 60-70yds with confidence with this combo!

Clothes and chairs are sprayed down with permethrin and drying in the shop. I'll get my ground blind sprayed down Monday after I check my cameras.

Well, I had some extra time after I finished the rest of my chores today. I got my blind sprayed down, tripod set up and chairs for Daph and I in position.
I also found a spot on top of a ridge that looked promising. I cleared out the leaves around a big oak for enough room for two. I raked leaves from the top of the ridge to the meadow at the bottom for a quiet entry/exit. I also raked a path from that tree to an opening so I can quietly set up my decoys.
I pulled the cameras and will check them tomorrow sometime.
All set for opening day! I am working that morning but, going in early so I have plenty of time to take Daph out in the afternoon.

You are certainly doing all you can to tip the scales in your favor. I will be spraying my clothes down and gathering my gun and vest this afternoon after that I'm set. The next comment exemplifies my "nerdome" at the beginning of each turkey season I feel like a hobbit getting ready for his big adventure. Pack light bring some food, water, a gun, and a call. Then I go wondering HNF in search of a turkey, future deer spots, mushrooms, and impressive looking scenery! Good luck to all!

What broadhead you using? The ones made specifically for head shots or a more normal head.

What broadhead you using? The ones made specifically for head shots or a more normal head. After making contact with Sevr, they told me that their broadhead is not design or recommend for head shots. I honestly just assumed they would be. I will probably start taking the shotgun with me now and maybe purchase some Magnus Bullheads for next year. I appreciate you bringing this question to mind. I was considering the head shot so I could have a quick, clean kill. I don't want to be wound the turkey.
