To all those tree stands that folks forget or refuse to remove from state properties on or before the removal date.
This is a small pile from a state property that is not really known as deer hunting area.
There were more but some have been claimed or donated, this is from the spring of 2022.

I've seen piles like that on the GovDeals auction site from the DNR. A lot of them are very old, missing parts, and have rust and damage to them. Probably should be cut up and scrapped instead of sold to the public.

Looks like heaven to me.
I always recycle old ladders, hang on platforms, and expanded metal into new and existing tree stands. Some of mine look like the Frankenstein monster when I'm done. Lol. But rest assured, never a weak link and no complaints when they help kill deer.

There are so many stands left out on HNF and State land all year long where people claim their spot. I would think if a stand is left on public land after the season it would be fair game for anyone.

I heard of guys allegedly doing the states work and collecting trash left in state forests then selling them. Made that pile look small.
Wife works for national forest and they are pulling junk out routinely. Typically they will tag it for a period of time and then pull it down. Stands, blinds, tents, junk, just about anything that can be carried in

I got a nice "junk pile" to prove it. Old aluminum extension ladders make great ladder stands. I can make a ladder stand that is much better than you can buy and trust it more.

If you throw something away guess what? You’ll need the next day..
