Does anyone here hang rope over scrapes? I've been seeing this and it does appear to be useful and effective.
I see a lot of guys using hemp rope. I have some sisal rope on hand and was wondering if there's really that big of a difference?

I havnt used rope, but I recently late last fall have used a vine around 3/4 inch in diameter. I have only one pic of a buck using it. several pics of other deer around it. Going later today to fill the feeder and pull cards, hopefully i'll have some pics to share.

I've been looking into this as well. My dad bought some rope to use. I'm not sure what kind. We are hanging them when we pull stands down.

I have about 28' of 3/4" sisal rope and a spool of aluminum wire. I think I'll try to hang 5 ropes tomorrow after/during a morning rabbit hunt.

I always hang a piece of grape vine. The stuff is growing everywhere, so it's easy to find a hunk and is about as natural as it gets.

Okay, someone needs to explain this because I'm just not understanding the why.

You will rarely find a good scrape that doesn't have an overhead branch of some type that gets worked by their antlers, rubbed on with glands on their face, etc.
When making fake scrapes in a desired location you don't always have the overhead branch, so you put something there. A vine, rope or a branch wired or tied in place does the trick

I am a big advocate of grape vines. There are a ton of vidoes on this. Several of them say not to use the ropes cause it is not natural. Look up horizontal rubs by Ted Miller as well. These type of things are just fun to mess with.

These type of things are just fun to mess with. I have a couple horizontal rubs. One of them got trashed this season. I know guys and have seen videos on both the ropes and vines. Good success on both accounts. I don't have access to vines like some do. I do have a few though. I know you can buy them but, I am choosing to use the sisal rope instead. The sisal and the hemp both work well since they are made with natural materials. I may actually put a camera on one or two of the ropes for an entire year so I can document the success/failure of it. Game plan tomorrow is to get them up and let them get weathered and let the deer get use to them. Then maybe in June or July, start putting some pre-orbital gland scents on them.

I had success hanging a vine from a limb. I like to make a mock scrape under the hanging vine. I get many pictures from bucks and does that always leave a scent mark on the vine as they pass by.

I hung 4 ropes and put cameras on two of them this morning while rabbit hunting. The two ropes with the cameras are about 800 yards apart.

The video I saw said to unravel the bottom 8" or so to just loose fibers.

My bud has picked up on this also. He has just put out 2 ropes also. I'll update on his pics. Probably be putting one out in my reduction spot also soon.

Okay, someone needs to explain this because I'm just not understanding the why. It has the power to separate you from your money. I had rope and I had wire. All it cost me was time. Had I not had the rope and wire, I would have bought it regardless. I don't mind spending my money on my hobbies.
