After working in and around Clifty Park's Campground for over four years I can barely wrap my mind around the logistics here. Thank God for the bathhouses. Wish TV McCormicks creek story

So sad.....I worked at Lieber and Starve Hollow between 1977-1995 and thankfully never had something like this happen.

Length of stay: Maximum length of stay is 14 consecutive nights. A minimum of Thursday and Friday, Friday and Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday is required for weekend reservations.

I retired in 2020 but it "used to be" you had to leave the property (camper and all) for 2 days before coming back. But of course each property tweaked the rules, so to say. LOL

There are folks who “ live” at campgrounds and they fall in two camps; those that want to and those that have to. Regarding the rules, you can stay 14 days. Then you must vacate entirely for 48 hours. Site hopping is prohibited. Speaking of rules, you would not believe how difficult it is to ban someone. We can boot you for a day —or perhaps, with difficulty a season—-but we have to start all over the next season.

Hopefully their pain or suffering was brief and God's judgment was merciful.

Won’t say the one I stayed at but back when I hunted public ground a ton after Halloween they let me keep my camper on the spot and only charged me the nights I stayed at my camper place was empty for the most part and I was basically a non issue. I’d come after work hunt go to bed and leave for work at 5 and hunt all weekend. I rarely went over during gun on the weekends but during the week I would I never gun hunted always bow hunted I normally pulled out the end of November or real early December I know they made more money off me that way I would never pulled that camper two or three times a week let alone had time todo it and hunt I believe it was 12 bucks maybe 15 a night Great people got to know a lot of them I miss those days I know today that would never happen to many rules regulations

This is always a fear with those who camp on a regular basis. I have experience a couple of close calls over the years.
My thoughts in this case fall to what amount out warning was given to the campers? This storm system was predicted and shown to be a long track system well before it got into Indiana. I truly hope the park staff was alerting the guests about the storm system and the predicted timing well before any local tornado or severe storms warnings came out. While I will never blame park staff for what happened or the decisions any guests made, I fully understand the feelings they will face the rest of their lives.

Its my understanding staff made the rounds prior and suggested they go to the Inn (which has a basement). Given that though.....you are right about second guessing themselves.
And Treetop you are exactly right.....the days of making decisions on the property based on what worked best common sense wise is all but out the door now. The amount of layers to go through for a simple decision is one of the big reasons I pulled the plug.

Horrible accident. I hope the surviving family and friends are handling the loss of their loved ones.
What is suitable warning. I heard about the high wind warning on Thursday...when does a grown adult own the liability of their choices?

We were driving back from FL and all hell broke loose on us as we got to Franklin. I had heard it was supposed to be windy with some storms around, but had no idea the severity.
To make a long story short, we had to shelter in the truck up against the leeward side of a gas station building under the canopy. I wanted to get to the hospital that was about 0.5 mile away, but couldn't make it. I could barely get off 31. Heading to a ditch was a no-go due to overhead power lines.
The lightning lit up the sky a color of green I've never seen before. The NWS came over the radio and said a confirmed tornado had touched down in Franklin and was moving east at 60 mph.
Turns out we were between the two tornadoes that hit Johnson County. Luckily we had no damage or injuries, although the power was our between Franklin and White River, with debris on the road and a couple of trees down on the east bound lane of 144.
I can't say my brother's baby momma/my niece's mom was so lucky. They live in Sullivan, and there house was destroyed. The had trouble getting out of the basement because of the debris.

Glad all involved are okay. That color of green is something you will never forget. I don't know the explanation for it, but it is distinctive.
