Finishing up my build on a 15 and can't decide between a .300 blk or 5.56. Does anyone have both and prefer one or the other?

I guess it depends all on intended purpose. Deer hunting, obviously 300 Blackout over the 5.56. Same if you want to suppress it. Plinking or home defense? I'd go 5.56 due to ammo availability and price, also much flatter trajectory.
Also could consider 350 Legend, 450 Bushmaster, or 6.5 Grendel. Again, depending on intended purpose.

Not going to deer hunt with it, more for coyotes and defense but would like to suppress it in the end. I've already looked into the other calibers and I'm not a fan, at least for my first build.

Done both had both for what your doing I’d go 5.56 The 5.56 (.223) is cheaper to shoot/plink with and if you get a fast twist barrel you can shoot the heavies albeit if you handload you may find magazine constraints. = length issues with heavy bullets. On the other hand a suppressed .300 BO is deadly quiet and fun.

Go with a fast twist .223 Wylde chamber. You can download to shoot heavier bullets slower with a can on it as long as you have the twist to stabilize them.

Ended up going with a 16” 5.56, I don’t see any reason not too. Going to get a PSA GF3 to get my 7.62 fix.

Went with a .223 Wylde. Found a killer deal on an upper, hand guard, and barrel so finally put it together yesterday. Waiting on my digital 2-16x Wraith Digital sight with IR flashlight now.

Good luck with the Wraith. A buddy got one for coyotes locally and hogs in Texas and it would not hold zero on a .300 BLK. Rifle shot under 1" groups with a traditional Nikon scope on it.

Don't forget your adjustable gas block. You may need it if you run suppressed.

Ended up going with an ATN Elite. It's amazing and holds zero well after about four magazines through it... I got a killer deal from one of the guys here so figured I'd do that. It really is incredible how far out you can see in the pitch black with just an infrared flashlight. Wish I knew how to post a picture here lol.
