Anyone know anybody who has this? I’m going to a allergist and having them check me. Sunday night I had a life threatening emergency where within minutes I broke out n hives, swelling over my body especially tongue where I couldn’t talk, then lost consciousness multiple times falling and breaking my nose and hurting my hip. Transported to hospitals by ambulance and kept for 3 days. Doctors ruled out heart, stroke and after MRI and cat scan the brain. Never had any problems before but ate meat for the first time in a couple of weeks. No tests ran except multiple blood tests and everything is normal. I ate nothing for a couple hours before this happened, was drinking ice water. Any information appreciated.

Jesus, glad that you are still with us. Never heard of that before. Maybe get tested for allergy sensitivity to the type of meat you ate, AND any seasonings that were on it.

I have a friend that has it. He can't eat red meat or it makes him sick. It has been 4 years since he has had it. He said he can eat some types of meat in moderation now and feels like he is starting to get over it. A lone star tick bit him. I have pulled several lone star ticks off of me in my lifetime and so far no problems except for a nasty infected-looking wound and itching for several months. It literally takes 2-3 months for the wound and itching to heal. For the last one, that bit me my doctor put me on antibiotics for two weeks it has been a month or more ago and it still itches bad, but looks much better

Have you been bitten by a tick recently? I be surprised if they didn’t ask that at hospital…. But you never know!

My former boss has it. It was several years ago when this was seldom heard of..he basically self-diagnosed and asked the docter to check and was positive. Seems I remember as ms660 said, it is tranmitted by the lone star tick?
I have no idea of the effectiveness or even if its still a viable option. Back in the 90s the DNR offered a series of 3 shots to it's employees working in the field that was supposed to prevent tick borne diesases. I got the shots and luckily never had any symptons. Can't say it was because of the shots or I was just lucky.
Sure hope they can get you squared away.

Yes, bitten by lots of ticks. That’s why my wife and I think I may have this Alpha-Gal. Doctors at the hospital did agree after we bought it up that this could be the case but just referred me to a allergist for further. I started wheezing last fall during bow season and haven’t quit to this day. I’ve had pulmonary function test, heart stress test and sleep apnea test and all came back normal.

I have a buddy who suddenly had a terrible allergic reaction to red meat. I believe his doctor eventually diagnosed him with Alpha-Gal. Now, he only eats poultry. No pork. No beef, No venison. If he eats any of the three he breaks out in a terrible rash. Hopefully you'll receive a diagnosis soon. Best of luck to you.

Glad you pulled out of it!
I just pulled a lone star tick off of my calf three days ago, the first one I've ever seen as far as I can remember. The spot is swollen, red, and itchy. I'm hoping it doesn't carry the bug because I can't imagine a life allergic to red meat.
Hope you find the answers you are looking for.

My wife thought I was gone, the paramedics said if she hadn’t called the ambulance I probably would’ve been. I’m sure we will figure out what caused the incident, likewise on the red meat part but if it means I’ll never have another episode like that, I’m ok with no meat.

This is really terrible for any person especially for a hunter. Keep us posted on this topic.

That sounds way worse than those I know who have been diagnosed with alpha gal.
But it could be your body had a really bad reaction. Certainly would be wanting answers

It’s official, I tested positive for Alpha-Gal. No red meat, pork, lamb or venison. Just fish and feathers. Guess starting today I become a trophy hunter instead of a meat hunter.

Nothing wrong with being a Trophy hunter Bill… That title is overrated anyway IMO It’s just a polite way for someone to insult a person for killing or wanting to kill mature game. Fowl and fish make good eating IMO!

I really don’t have that much meat anyway besides venison, I’m going to miss that. I just smoked 6 pork butts and bought 2 full slabs of ribs I was gonna cook this weekend. Bought the meat on sale a couple of months ago before all this started.
