This might be a question for the Conservation officer page. Is there any public ground in Indiana where squirrel hunting is allowed using horses or mules? I know some public land in Kentuckyis aloud. Can't find much on Indiana..

Hoosier national forest allows it I know. Not according to Indiana Admininistrative Code: Section 312 IAC 9-3-2 (u) An individual must not hunt deer with the use or aid of:(1) bait, which includes: (A) a food that is transported and placed for consumption, including, but not limited to, piles of corn and apples placed in the field; (B) a prepared solid or liquid that is manufactured and intended for consumption by livestock or wild deer, including, but not limited to, commercial baits and food supplements; (C) salt; or (D) mineral supplements; (2) snares; (3) dogs; or (4) other domesticated animals. The use of manufactured scents and lures or similar chemical or natural attractants is not prohibited. (v) An area is considered baited for ten (10) days after the removal of the bait and the baited soil. Hunting an area, such as an orchard, which may be attractive to deer as the result of normal agricultural activity, is not prohibited. (w) Notwithstanding subsection (u), an individual may use dogs only while on a leash to track or trail wounded deer. (x) Notwithstanding subsection (u), an individual may use: (1) donkeys; (2) mules; and (3) horses; for transportation to and from a hunt but not while hunting. Can use them for transportation, but can't use them "for hunting".

^^ Yes, for deer only.
Now if you were horseback riding with the rifle in a scabbard, unloaded, and then saw a deer, got off the horse loaded the gun and shot the deer, I would argue all day long that the horse was transportation and I wasn't hunting off of the horse.
Now I don't know if a Whitetail would stand still long enough for that but a Mule Deer sure would. I shot one like that while riding the ATV on a trail back from a hunting area. Saw a buck, got off the ATV, unstrapped the case from the ATV, removed the rifle from the case, loaded the rifle, put a round in the chamber, turned around and shot the deer without touching the ATV.
I was more surprised than the deer that it actually happened.

I did see that for deer. I'm looking for squirrel hunting. It's very common in KY. It's really cool how they do it, some even shoot off the mule
