Let alone the high draw on the grid from everything else trying to keep up with the cold...
Think about the battery draw to run the heater on an electric car, let alone heated seats and such (if it's even possible due to overload?)
All electric is just not the answer yet. A hybrid has is probably the best choice so far.

A hybrid has is probably the best choice so far. Batteries and cold is not a good mix. Even our lowly battery powered cell trail cameras take a hit in extreme cold weather. Alkalines are worse than Lithiums. Some folks make fun of it, but we absolutely love our 2011 Prius. 47 to 50 mpg and ("knock on wood") no problems with the car at all. Just regular maintenance, tires and a 12 volt battery. .

I am not sure I understood that story. One place said the batteries wouldn't take a charge but another story I thought said the chargers were not working?

Biden and his Cabinet of idiots, namely John Kerry and Jennifer Granholm, continue to push and mandate electric vehicles while Elon Musk continues to say that neither the technology nor the infrastructure is ready for them to be the primary mode of transportation.
I don't like cliches, but "play stupid games win stupid prize" has never been more apparent. Immigration, inflation, foreign affairs, DEI, etc. The Republican brass can't get their collective $#!t together and we end up with an incoherent puppet in the White House.
Ditto on the hybrid vehicles. My current company car is a Ford Maverick. It gets over 40 mpg and is a pleasure to drive. Not worth a hoot for hauling much, but meets my needs most of the time.

Electricity is based on Dalton's theory that we use today. Dalton's atomic theory was the first complete attempt to describe all matter in terms of atoms and their properties. Electrons circle around the atom properties.
When it is cold per this theory the electrons move slower and slower as the temperature cools. Most electronics will not work well below 32F. Most can only handle 0C (32F), some -10C (14) and very few -20C (-4). Where I work we make a few outdoor HMI's that can handle -20C (-4). Nothing colder than that.
So charging stations that are outside need all components rated at -20C. Might be impossible. Even -10C will be hard. Good luck with that!
I guess they weren't smart enough the put heaters in them when it gets below 35F. I had to do this for my solar controller in my barn. I have a small heater pad stuck to the back of the controller and plugged into a thermoset outlet adaptor. It turns on at 35f and back off at 45f.

With my son turning 16 next year, he will be acquiring my Honda civic and we will be in the market for a new/newer car for my wife. Our other vehicle that’s my wife’s daily driver and my recreational car is a RAV 4 adventure package that has a 4 cylinder, gets 30mpg, and has a good enough towing capacity to drag around my bass boat and I use for hunting. I’m the type that likes to buy a car for the long haul. I also go for fuel efficiency so the gas price wave doesn’t hurt as much. With the EV push it’s a weird time to be looking for a vehicle that will be feasible 5-10 years from now. The EV route doesn’t seem great with the issues mentioned but also the idea of “filling up” on trips. Right now an option I’m looking into is a plug-in hybrid which seem to be gaining popularity. Only problem there is you’re almost forced to buy brand new. If I understand the plug in hybrid you are set to get about 30 miles or so per charge and after that the hybrid gas/electric motor kicks in. This seems viable for me or my wife with our short work commutes but you don’t have to worry about “fueling up”. A note on hydrogen, it looks like Toyota has a hydrogen option that is available in California. www.toyota.com/mirai/

Before you buy a plug in hybrid, check to see how long the batteries last before they need to be replaced, and at what cost.
Since I live in the country, I still wouldn't go anything battery.
