I have a friend who has been asking me for a recommendation as a Carry gun for his wife. Carry may not be the best term because he said she’s looking for some thing that she can shoot fairly often, practice with it, and yet most likely carry in her purse. She also does a fair amount of deliveries in the way of catering, and might keep it in the vehicle. I wanted to throw this out there for any advice, recommendations, and feedback.

My wife goes nowhere without her Ruger LCP 22 cal. pistol. I first bought her a S&W 380 Body Guard but she had a hard time racking the slide and the kick of such a small pistol the 380 had made it hard to control plus the price of ammo for the 380 compared to the other 22 rounds let her practice a lot more. She uses CCI 22 Stingers for carry ammo. I would hate to be on the receiving end of her. I feel much better now that she does. She walks every day and we live in a rural setting

Do you have a few pistols of different calibers that she can shoot to see what she can handle recoil wise? She can get a fanny pack that is a holster, so she can carry it on her person all the time. It's harder to take out of the vehicle and put on your person if it needs to be in a holster, concealed. A Fanny Pack Holster makes it a lot easier. www.511tactical.com/select-carry-pistol-pouch.htmlIf you have free time tomorrow morning or early afternoon, give me a shout. I'm going to be picking up 6"-8" and 10"+ Yellow Perch tomorrow for pond stocking and I will have about 7 hours of windshield time.......

I got my wife a Kimber micro .380 to carry. Nice little handgun. I may self carry a colt mustang xsp 380. I also like it, can’t hardly tell it’s there.

I think S&W M&P EZ 9MM is a great carry gun. My daughter does ok with hers. Slide racks easy and more of a variety of ammo available. Ruger LCP .380 is reliable as long as it is gripped tight. And it is very concealable. S&W or Ruger LCR 38 Specials. I am not a fan of the 22LR for a personal defense gun. Or purse carry for ladies.

HCG My wife and I both carry the SIG 938 9mm. With a custom grip on hers, she really likes the way she can handle it and the way it shoots. But like greghopper said the S&W revolvers, in air lite or lady smith are awesome revolvers.

Thanks for all the feedback fellas. I think I need to gather more information from the wife and what she has shot and what she is ultimately wanting. I have a feeling that the husband is more interested in finding a gun for his wife than she cares. I do know she wants something easy to shoot and easier to rack the slide. I’ve offered to let “them” shoot my LCRx and Glock 43 for starters. I like the reviews I’m reading on the M&P Shield EZ and Ruger Security in 380.

Anything with a slide will need two hands unless you are okay carrying Hot. It is all about preference, ease, and comfort IMO…personally I wouldn't go with anything less then 9mm. www.smith-wesson.com/product/j-frame-163808

As a member of Range, USA, I have taken family and friends with me as a guest. It’s a good option to rent different guns. But it is also intimidating for some. As a regular I know the Rangemasters and some are pretty quirky. Depending on who is on duty I can usually defuse some of the nerves by first having an open and frank conversation between my guest and the Rangemaster.

Years ago when we still lived in the sticks my wife would run on the roads around us. I bought her a fanny pack called The Gunrunner and a new .38 snubbie, and insisted that she wear it.
Sure enough, a few weeks later, some slimeball pulled up alongside her on a lonely stretch and asked her if she was looking for a date, and some other things. She pulled the revolver and simply showed it to him, and he burned rubber. Another crime prevented by an armed citizen. She did also fire it once to scare off a pack of stray dogs too.
A hammerless snubbie makes a good purse gun.

Awareness of your surroundings can go a long way to protect your self. The nice about the Bags is the hammer spur does not dig in. I have 2 Galco bags, One for big guns the other for mouse guns. With practice you can get into them pretty quick. The censored covers the initial's for Fast Action Gun Bag.
