Well I decided it was an awesome idea to spend money for a blackpowder pistol so we could deer hunt with it. I also thought it was a good idea to listen to the manual that came in the box. It clearly stated that you should use 90-100 grain of powder, but I can honestly say THAT'S A TERRIBLE IDEA. I'm not going into detail on the effects, but the outcome of the 1st shot was way beyond scary. I decided on trying 50 grain of powder, and the outcome was better, but the pistol still has a considerable amount of recoil. In a hunting case, it would probably be easier to hold since I can use a tree to make it more stable, but range shooting it with nothing to help hold the muzzle is not suggested lol

I'm not making fun here glad you're ok. Ever watch the Kentucky ballistics video of The Host blowing up a 50 caliber rifle when trying to shoot a round that was too hot? Pretty scary stuff! Glad you are okay!

The powder charge is part of the equation. Projectile weight also factors in. I'd probably start with a 240 grain XTP and about 70 grains of powder. Sounds like a fun gun.

Just to check, you used a volumetric measurement of powder vs. a weight measurement, correct?

I shoot 100 grains in my Optima RIFLE and it has a pretty good thump. Don't think that I would enjoy shooting a pistol with that load. The gun would handle it, but my 75 year old frame would likely protest.
By the way, my optima has one of the best triggers of any of my hunting guns.

Had a buddy who put a pistol grip on an 870, no butt stock, we were messing around one day shooting clays and he pulled that out. I had a #8 shot loaded. Thought it wouldn't punch that hard, I will never use that gun again unless I was being chased by zombies and it was my ABSOLUTE last resort!

I shot it once and set it down. I would not shoot that again unless in defense of my home and family.

My brother had a 12 gauge Mossberg 500 Camper's combo about 35 years ago. I shot it with the pistol grip and heavy game loads one handed. BECAUSE I was 16 and that's what the Terminator did. I found out real quick, I ain't the Terminator!
