Anyone live there? Me and a buddy were offered a lease for $5 an acre for 350 acres. We haven't seen the land yet. This is all just happening. I hate to pay a lease, but it is so hard to find a place to turkey hunt when your from up north, and don't know anyone where the turkeys live. I'm not even sure where it is exactly in the county. Don't have much info yet.

Would this lease be for turkey and deer? Assuming it is, and assuming it is a decent looking property, that is a very good price for a lease. Orange County is one of the top turkey producers year in and year out. 5 dollars an acre is a good deal if it is a good spot.

$5?
That is a good price if there is a substantial number of huntable acres.

Yeah, that's what we thought. It would be for deer and turkey. We are hoping to be able to look it over next week during turkey season.

Good hunting in that area. Lots of hills and lots of farm ground. Plus Patoka Lake is just up Hwy 145 from French Lick. With the new casino opening up soon, the big land grab is on in Orange Co. My wife is from there and when we drive through it looks like everything is for sale or lease now. IMO I'd pay $5.00 an acre. I've seen turkeys in about every part of the county.

You can pay for a lease if you want , but with Patoka and a good number of other fine public spots that offer equally fine hunting you might want to reconsider . Lease prices in Orange Co. are already beginning to rise as Quackhead100 said , right now $5 per acre would be a bargain if you could get a long term arrangement , but what will it jump to once the contract is over ?
You could aerially scout the area with TerraServer or another sat photo site and determine where you'd like to start , and there's hardly a bad spot in the whole county . Despite their bad reputation the public lands down here don't get nearly the pressure that some would say they do , walk a little further in than the rest and the only tracks you'll see will be yours and those of what you're hunting . I've seen upwards of 30 deer in a single outing at Patoka , and had more than a few turkeys walk right under the ladder stand I was sitting in . Patoka also has good camping spots for reasonable prices .
