I love Indiana because this is where my family is. The hunting and fishing isn't bad either. :-)

I was driving back to Indy from Bloomington yesterday after shooting my new ML, when I thought to myself, man I am really making good time. Next thing I know I got an officer with his lights on behind me. I pulled over. As he walked to the truck I told him I had a gun in the back. He acknowledged and asked me what I was hunting. Obviously nothing, but it was nice of him to ask and then he asked about the gun. I felt good about things even though he got me going 70 in a 55. About 10 minutes later and after thinking this is taking way to long, he came back with two warnings. One for the speed and the second for not signing my registration.
I am very thankful that he gave me a break. Btw - this is the first time in my life I have ever received a warning. Crazy.
As soon as I saw the officer, I thought of a thread from this forum a couple months ago. So thanks for taking the time to write about this topic.

I am a programmer, so I have worked with just about every OS. I have found you are either a *nix guy, Mac, or windows user. All have their own advantages and disadvantages. For most people, windows is probably the best option. This is due to most users are familiar with it and really don't want to learn a new OS. My wife is a windows user and I use it at work, but for my mobile development company I use a Mac. Of course the mac is based on FreeBSD. FreeBSD is a flavor of unix. if you don't want viruses and you like to tinker, install Linux. My choose would be Fedora. You can get just about any equivalent software for Linux. I think this is a good route to go.
Long and short, macs are expensive, but you could always get a Mac mini for around $600.

I went through with my gps, marking waypoints along the way. So hopefully that will help out with scouting come late summer/early fall.
The owner told me he will have cattle in one of the fields after the crops are out, I doubt the deer really care if cattle are there. Actually I think it might help, if I move and they hear it, I can just moo! Haha
I am finding out how much of a time consumer this hunting thing is when you get serious about it. My wife thinks I am insane with all the time I have put into writing land owners and meeting with them. I think it is fun and you get to meet interesting people with great life stories.
Thanks for the info guys.

Man I really need to proof read my posts when I am sending them from my phone. The message was hard to read. Sorry!
I do like the proboards app!
Thanks for the suggestions. There are a few really large lanes where a truck has been through, probably hauling timber. Heck it could be from that bobcat I saw posted on the site today, the one carrying a morel.

I have recently acquired a 30 and 40 acre pieces of wooded land to hunt on. I walked the land on Friday but didn't find much sign of deer. I saw a couple paths and a few prints in the mud, nothing that really popped, like old rubs or shredded trees. There were quite a few nut trees, acorns, shag bark hickory, and walnuts. Both plots are surrounded by corn, so I am not sure what need to be done to entice the critters in there.
This is my first time not having my hunting buddies who knows more than me about the woods. So I think my next step is to put my camera out and see where they are traveling.
If you have suggestions of other things I should be doing in the off season, please let me know.
Thanks. Mike

I agree, it is this way in any forum you go to. People are just opinionated, nothing wrong with that. Just my opinion. Haha

Well I went to a archery shop out in spencer, a small place called "The Barn Archery". The owners were super friendly and did a great job putting the new Vapor Trail Limbdriver Pro-V. They even participated in the tuning. I love the drop away. It is way better than the quiktune 360 I had.
If you have not been to the archery shop, give it a shot.

I have a ton of fly tying stuff. I would be willing to part with it. I fly fish on eagle creek res.

I have been seeing a few boats on Eagle Creek Res the last couple weeks. I would imagine they are hitting there.

I am not sure about the rip cord red, but I will be buying a drop away soon. I was looking at my rest tonight after shooting some new arrows, the seat of the rest was getting shaved by the arrow.
Drop away, here I come.
Thanks for the advise. I decided to not go with the fobs also. It is just not worth it.

I will hunt Michigan regardless whether I get a deer in Indiana. I just go up to hang out with friends and do some hunting.

Has anyone shot fobs on their arrows instead of fletchings? What are your thoughts? I watched a couple videos on YouTube, they are pretty impressive with high winds.
I'm not quite sure I want to replace my QuickTune rest for a drop away just yet. I am always concerned with mechanical parts at high speeds.
Thanks for the thoughts. Mike

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I actually got one from a buddy earlier this week. I have not tested it out yet, but I imagine I won't have an issue with it.
