Congratulations! Sounds like you made an awesome shot! Thanks! Shot was double lung, sharp angle because he was only at 10 yards (yeah couldn't see the buttons even at 10, haha! Like some say, it happens). Obliterated left lung. Ran 30 yards and went down in the field behind me but I backed out cause I wanted to make sure of the property (learned tonight that it is part of the property, good to know), and wanted the kids in the family to have a little excitement with helping. Got him all hung up now, got to rest and eat then out to finish cleaning. By the way, your buck is awesome! They don't always come that wide! Thank you very much! And no, no they sure don't. I'm still on cloud 9! It's pretty cool to read that you got that excited over shooting a "doe". Lol! I do too. Any deer that I intend on shooting, I start getting excited right away. Congratulations again!

Went out for an afternoon hunt. Got up in stand, and thought, "that rock wasn't there before" in a small opening in brush. Well the "rock" was a forkie's back. Then 20 minutes later a deer comes towards me. It slowly gets closer and and closer, as it eats. Looked like a doe. Once I get an open area I shoot. Well looking for it was easy, but get up to it and became thankful that button bucks in IN are counted as antlerless because it was one of those that looked EXACTLY like a doe until I got up and took a look! I've shot one or two others over the years. One was my first deer, one was also mistaken for a small doe. Still happy. Pics later when Internet is much better and paid for. Congratulations! Sounds like you made an awesome shot!

This was pretty much my last day to hunt for myself. I work during the week and gun season is going to be all about my wife and stepdaughter getting a deer. The fact that the wife and kids were all home to be part of the recovery today had me in the mood to kill one and be done. This young 8 point gave me a nice open shot at 40 yards. I took out the lungs and heart. I let my stepdaughter lead us on the short blood trail to the buck. The shot was a good example of where she needs to aim. The inner loins will be cooked after the football game. Congratulations!!!! Great family time!

Well she would not have same luck here! In years past, I'd have laid her out stiffer than a board. I guess I've become an old softie. Lol! I've never hunted with a crossbow before, and since today will probably be the last day that I'll pack one this season, I really wanted to get a kill with it. I had her dead to rights a million times as she stood broadside at 10 yards and was looking directly away from me, but deep down I really didn't want to end her life on this day. I've been there. Good encounter watching her anyhow.

About 3:00 (CST) I had this buck and another busted up buck chasing a doe all along the ridge top and down both sides. This went on for about 20 minutes. They finally went away from me and the woods went silent. No more grunting or crunching leaves. As I was trying to settle myself down from all the chaos. I heard some light foot steps coming my way. Out popped the doe going straight to my horizontal rub. The busted up buck came through behind her but, giving her a wide birth. I knew the 8 point had to be popping up any second. I heard a grunt and went ahead and settled in behind the crossbow. Just as I did, he stepped around the corner. I yelled "HEY" as I was setting the pin on his shoulder. He stopped and I squeezed the trigger. The lighted knock failed to light. I couldn't see the impact and immediately got a sick, nervous feeling in my gut. The buck lunged forward at the shot and turned after he passed a downed tree. I waited 25 minutes and just had to go check the impact sight. Found the bolt immediately and was very happy to see it soaked. I said a prayer asking for help in the recovery. I have backed out, called a couple buddies and went to my truck to off load my gear. We began tracking immediately and soon as we round the downed tree, white belly laying there at 40 yards. I couldn't be happier! Time to rest up and go see the Dr. about this pesky heart issue. Thanks for all the congrats! Congratulations to all the other successful hunters! Good luck everyone else! Hunt safe and God bless! Congrats, will you now go get that ticker looked at please? I'm going in this week 👍

Here is the 8 pointer I took. Two weeks ago I passed on this deer looking for something bigger. On Friday morning it showed up again and let it pass a 2nd time around 9am. Well at 10:15 it can back and I said that must be the one I'm supposed to take. 34 yards shot and ran 10 yards. You can see how steep the valley is. I had to 1st go down and up the other side. Congratulations sir! I was wondering if you got him out ok or not.
