Canned hunting amendment added to SB314 Eric Gutwein authored an amendment to SB 314 in the House Natural Resource Ag Committee which would strip the DNR's ability to regulate any animal other than those deemed wild. All Exotics and privately held deer, elk and other exotics would be exempt from DNR rule or statute. The bill which originally was a Ste Soil Conservation bill now includes the canned hunting exemption. It passed 10-0 out of the house committee and now will be heard on the house floor. In other news David Wolkins amended SB-77 on the house floor to sunset pheasant preserves after 5 years. The original bill which was done with the approval of the DNR will allow bird hunting areas to operate within 1 mile of a Fish and Wildlife area instead of the 5 mile area now a law. However Wolkins amendment is contrary to the DNR wishes as well as birdhunters.Wolkins it seems has a problem with bird preserves and put in take pheasant hunting as he earlier tried amended a bill that died which would have required pheasants released for hunting purposes to be done so 30 days prior to the hunt. Wolkins it appears is trying to anger sportsmen by pitting those who use bird preserves to train birddogs against the sportsmen against high fence hunting.

Request either removal of the "Gutwein amendment" or outright defeat of SB 314!!!! Hope somebody in the home districts of the House Ag/Natural Resources committee members is filing to run against these guys...
