What can you tell us about deer in Indiana suffering and dieing from black tongue disease? It made the news in Terre Haute and I've heard some hunting buddies talking about it, but I know very little. Does it pose a danger to humans by either being spread by biting gnats or through consumption?

It's been compared to blue tongue. It's called EHD...Epizootic Hemorrhagitic (SP?) Disease. It's caused by a gnat that infects wild ungulates (deer) and causes internal bleeding that is fatal in about a week or 2. Should run it's course after the first frost kills the gnats. I have been told it does not pose a threat to humans
