I called the hotline to report at least 5 deer that weren't tagged opening day of gun season....I believe there were even more then that as the hunters were still in the field when I pulled up to the barn with the 5 hanging without tags. The reason for going up to the barn or even calling was the fact that there was at least hi powered rifle being shot off in the 40 acres next to where I was hunting. I know muzzeloaders sound similar but I do know that they weren't reloading the muzzloaders that quick.
Bottom line I called TIP hotline and a CO called me pretty soon there after and then acted as if he was going to go investigate. He never did, it was somewhat disapointinting. He acted as if the deer that weren't tagged was the biggest issue, as he couldn't prove the rifle thing with a test any longer as muzzleloaders and handguns have the same powder now?
Overall, just a little disapppointed that I know they had too many bucks (3) for only (2) hunters and that they were using a rifle and the CO didn't even show up after he acted like he was going to. Any suggestions? I have outlaw neighbors and they get away with it because the CO's didn't show up. Thank you.

Author,
I understand why you would be upset. I am not going to speculate why this TIP call may not have been investigated. I would call the district office and speak to a supervisor and find out what happened. If you do not know the number you can call 317.232.4010 and find out. You called the TIP line and there will be a record of your call. I will say that just based on the information given in your question that as an investigating officer I would also be most concerned about two violations. One that the deer were not tagged and two that there was possibly overbagging on antlered deer. The possibility that they may have been taken with a rifle I could investigate once I found out a few more facts. Maybe they were shot with a handgun. It really does not matter if they were blown up with a handgrenade if they were overbagging and untagged. I am not trying to be smart to you, I am just saying that for either one of the first two charges they would be looking at some pretty stiff penalties and that they are all the same level of crime. The first two are just easier to prove. I would definately call and find out what happened with the case, hopefully something happened and you just were not aware of it.
