A lot of waterfowl are banded/collared for management, research, and tracking purposes. Not sure why this particular bird would have a collar. I don't have many swans in my area, but see lots of geese! Any help guys?

We have a fairly large number of swans (not muties!) that migrate through the state. Several are banded and collared, just like ALL other migratory birds. I have seen green, yellow, orange and white collars. These swans ARE PROTECTED, and are NOT the nuisance mute swans that have brought forth so much attention recently. I have been told that some of these banded swans also possess tiny transmitters that allow the USFWS to track their movement during their migration south (or into a violator's freezer!!)
