What about the replacement money for illegally taken animals? Also, I am under the impression that each Judge has the discretion on what happens to confiscated equipment. Shouldn't there be some sort of consistent severe punishment for such "infractions"?

All species of 'consumptive' wildlife has a replacement fee that is set by DNR administrative rule, such as the $500 replacement fee for deer and turkey (for the first illegal animal and $1000 for each thereafter). Yes, judges have ordered confiscated equipment back to the violator but it depends on the judge. The law reads that upon conviction, the equipment, devices, or machinery seized are forfeited to the state. See I.C. 14-22-39-6.
