It's nice to hear of all of our fans on Geist. I worked Geist Reservior for 11 summers for the first 11 years of my career. I can personally say that a CO will have to go to court more often on tickets written on Geist and Morse than probably anywhere else in the state, and not because they write marginal tickets. I won't comment on why but I'm sure most of you can read between the lines. At least there is one honest person that posted on the Geist site. I'm sure most of you read the link and the posts. The guys are just doing their jobs out there (I know because I personally trained a lot of them myself) and they make probable cause stops on actual violations, not safety checks for no reasonable suspicion (which we CAN legally do). For most of the tickets we have to go to court for, the folks deny that they were ever doing anything wrong. How many people in prison do you think believe that they are innocent? It's really something that so many folks see that drinking/partying with their friends and then driving a boat around is innocent behavior and that us (CO's) stopping them and administering field sobriety tests to boat drivers (that have been drinking) is harrassment!! I have arrested people holding and smoking from a marijuana cigarette that go to court and plead NOT GUILTY....come on! It would seem obvious that there is a problem here due to the fact that there are as many BWI (Boating While Intoxicated) arrests made annually on Geist and Morse reservoirs than all those combined made statewide!! In 2005 (June, July and Aug.) 2 other CO's and I made 70 BWI arrests on Geist and Morse. There were 70 BWI arrests made in 2004 for the whole state! Of the few things I miss about working Hamilton County, I can honestly say that I truly miss working boat patrol on Geist Reservoirand felt like I truly helped make a difference and may have saved someone's life! Thanks for the comments, Kyle, we appreciate it! The guys work their tails off out there on Geist and the responses that you read on that website are an example of the thanks that they seem to continuously get.
