I was wondering if anybody could recommend a good taxidermsit around southern indiana. I live in New Albany. An hour and half west of you is American Taxidermy in Boonville Indiana owned and operated by Dean Stallion. He does excellent award winning work. He does all of mine and Woodmaster's animals. You will not be dissapointed in his work. Phone - 812-897-0464. .

Jason's question got me thinkin again, can we compile a list of reputable taxidermists in our areas, sort of like we are doin in the archery forum with local shops? Anyone interested? I'll go ahead and list a couple in my area I have done buisness with and was very satisfied with their work. 1) Walnut Creek Taxidermy Upland IN. (765) 348-4223 Owner Rick Swain is a very accomplished Taxidermist as well as an avid fisherman and hunter. Rick specializes in mounting Fish and Upland Birds, however he does an Awesome job on anything he touches. I have seen Rick do Deer, Elk, Bear, Small game and Predators as well as Turkeys. Rick did my first gobbler and it is hands down one of the best mounts I have ever seen. Give Rick a call, You wont be disappointed! 2) Jack Raines' Taxidermy Studio Montpelier IN. (765) 728-2867 Owner Jack Raines is a second generation Taxidermist who took over his fathers business when he retired. Jack and his wife are both avid hunters. Jack does a great job and I highly recommend his work. He mounted my first buck as well as bucks for several close friends. All of which turned out Awesome.

H&H Taxidermy in Linton, In. He does all types of game including african animals. He does top notch work and has quite reasonable prices. Has a good reputation of getting mounts back quickly. Does on average 175 deer per year and will have 95% of them out by the end of may. His shop is about 40 minutes south of Terre Haute.

I took mine to Buck's Pro Mount.. www.buckspromounttaxidermy.com . He's in central Indiana in Fairland.. just SE of Indy... straight south of New Palestine. He charges $400 for a shoulder mount.. but he does unbelievable work from everything that I've seen. He specializes in birds and fish.. But he also does a great job on deer.

Anybody in the Northern part of the state that does good fish mounts? I've got a Smallmouth that is over 5# here in the freezer...... He/She is a "square" fish, 19 1/2" long, 19" girth. Caught in N. Wi. the 2nd week of September. I had a bigger one follow the crankbait to the boat, but it wasn't interested enough to strike.....
Thanks esshup

Whtlhaven is one of the best I've ever seen. I see hundreds of mounts a year. I score deer at my house and also at the deer expo in INDY and his are the best I have seen. You should definitely check him out if you want a mount that looks good and will last forever.

If you pay $100 more for a quility mount and that mount last for over 25 years......that's only $4 a year. Nothing bothers me more that seeing a new mount that is bad. Here is a mount Dean did for me....

Not bad, pretty good job there Woodmaster.
I've had 7 deer done and they all were $375-$450.
Larry Schmeltz in Tangier, In. is the best taxidermist I've seen on deer or turkey anywhere.. I've been tp the National NWTF conventions many times and Schmeltzs' Taxidermy work on turkey, to me look better than Cally Morris's work. His deer mounts are top notch also and I'm very critical of taxidermy work. There's alot of stuff out there that looks awful and there are a slim few who do an outstanding job. How will a mount hold up over time is the question...
I have one mount that was done by a guy I worked with back in 1994 ( Morton, Indiana Taxidermy), he done it cheap, one of the nicest deer I'd taken, and now 13 years later it's literally tearing apart at the seam on the back of the neck. It never did look right from day one, he shaved the form down because he over tanned my cape and it shrank, a 200 pound deer looked like 165 pound deer. I'm going to have it re-done, so it will ending up costing me twice as much in the long run. Do it right the first time and pay the money and make sure you do your homework, just because it look good today, doesn't mean it will 10 years from now. If a quality job is done it will last 25 plus years.
My Dad had a deer done by Larry Schmeltz in 1981 and it still looks excellent today, 26 years later.. Choose Wisely....
