Just got done putting the chording on the plaque mount of the buck my son and I teamed up on during our first "hunt" together. Not my biggest buck, but definitely one of my most memorable! The little guy is in bed, otherwise I would have had him pose with the mount for pictures. He has been so excited to get this project complete as this trophy will adorn the walls of his bedroom. (The picture above the mantel is more for my wife's sake....she swore she'd never let me hang "deer heads" in the family room. I just made this picture the desktop on her computer. ;D )
This was my first attempt at any type of "do it yourself" taxidermy. Thanks to BSUTravis for the pointers....the Borax worked like a charm. All in all I was well pleased with the outcome. All that is left is a small engraved plate I'll add to the bottom, then it will be ready to hang in my son's room. He and I both still grin ear to ear when we re-live the tale of this hunt!

Looks great Jon! I see that you didn't take my advice and split that skull cap so that you could widen out those antlers to gain some extra inches on the total score! You're just too darned honest! LOL

Thanks Hood... Here's a link to the site. www.jimallred.com/detail.aspx?ID=453It's actually made of a heavy rubber material formed and colored to look like leather. Easy to work with and looks good...
