This is how I will probably do my next good sized whitetail (if that happens ) and these guys will probably do it.

The skull metalizing looks pretty cool too.

Woody that's pretty cool! I had my elk from Hot Tea done European style, and he proudly hangs over my fireplace. Since then, I've done many deer mounts for myself and friends. My favorite is an antelope from Montana. I did three for guys last year by burying them until May - June to let the worms and maggots work them over, and then I put them in a mild bleach solution for three days. They may not look like the beetle eaten professional jobs, but I think they come out all right. Funny story to go along with that. I have a boxer pup named Sally, and she got in to the leftover nasty parts from the skulls that I had washed off with a garden hose, sort of like dogs do sometimes. Afterwards the better have called her up to the porch for supper and was babying her, when Sally gave her a big old lick across the face smelling of rotted deer brains. I just about died laughing when she was hurling her guts out in the back yard! That's the only time I've ever been ordered to brush and floss a dog's teeth! And she made the poor thing sleep next to me in the kennel that night!

I'm doing my boar skull from this spring that way. Right now it's hanging in a tree wrapped in chicken wire. I'll let nature take it's course and get it after it cools down again. I know a taxidermist who can get me the stuff I need at cost after that. I'm going to try to use the lower jaw as well since that's where the more impressive teeth are.

European mounts are cool, but no thanks on the metalized R2-D2 look.

If you don't want to fool with the skull cleaning process, you can purchase resin skulls and simply attach your antlers to them. They look totally real, no smell, no cleaning... It's not YOUR skull, but it's your antlers. Who knows the difference??? The best part....it'll only cost $35 or so. www.pinchbackreproductions.com/pinchback_reproductions_skulls.html

Be careful using bleach on your skulls. The bleach eats away at the bone and it will become paper thin and ruined. I know I did it once. Use a poroxide paste instead. Same results no ruined skull.

You can get 40 volume peroxide at beauty supply stores....it's about $12/gallon. They have it in a cream or a pure liquid....I suggest getting the liquid so that it fills into all the nook and cranies of the nasal cavity. The 40 volume will "bleach" the skull in as little as 6-8 hours.....or you can even use over the counter Hydrogen Peroxide that you use to clean cuts from the drug store. That stuff is only 3% so it takes 3-4 days of soaking to bleach the bone white.
Hunter7x is right.....never use household bleach! It can deteriorate the bone and make it flaky on the surface.
