What would be the best way to kill a coyote caught in a trap if your using a .22lr? I want to sell the fur so I dont want to do much damage.

Shoot it in the head.

To clarify, shoot it in the head from the side just below the ear, so you don't risk a pass-through and have it cut the hide down the back. I'd use a .22 short loaded with HP's for head shots.

That's what I was thinking but is there a specific spot that would be best, like behind the ear??

listen to danf, he's right. 22 short is plenty out of a handgun for this work too. I usually wait for them to drop their head for a good angle and pop them in the brainpan if they are facing me.

Great advice guy's. I just caught my first double this morning and was able to try out this method. It was very quick and very effective. Thanks again.
p.s You can see pics in my thread "first double".

Be sure to use quality ammo or it won't matter much where you shoot it

A small hole in the head doesn't really matter. They don't use that part of the pelt anyways.
