Hello all,
My name is Tim. I ran across this forum and thought I would sign up and give it a try. I have been looking for a Indiana hunting forum for a while now, I am glad I found one. Just wanted to know if anyone else on here runs coyote with hounds? I hunt with 7 runnin walkers and 4 stags.
I also hunt with Jagd Terriers for coon and other critters as well. I own 3 as of right now and hope to be droppin pups in the spring. I am sure I will be adding new stories to this page often.
Hope you all had a Great Christmas, and Happy New Year!
Tim ;D

I hunt with a few guys who have dogs. They are mostly walkers Their dogs are not good fight dogs but do track and run coyotes. We have a blast every year from about this time untyil the end of season hunting coyotes with their dogs.

It is a blast. so do you guys shoot over the dogs? Most of the time my stags are the ones I use for the catch, not to say my hounds don't catch them from time to time. The hounds I use most of the time for jumping them out of the brush or section. Once the stags get sight of them it is a done deal. Here lately the hounds have been doing a hell of a job baying them suckers, and thats when the fun really starts. It took me a while to get the right dogs that will stay and fight to get the job done. As of right now I could not ask for a better pack.
I tell you what though buddy, if you think runnin yotes is fun you need to try hunting with Jagds sometime. They keep them coons and whatever else they catch on thier toes. I think sometime soon I am going to try some patterdales so I can get some critters out of the ground as well.

yes we shoot over the dogs These dogs just keep them moving once in a while (maybe 1 in 20) we will get one bayed up Heck we even loose about 1/2 the yotes we run do to roads or going on property we don't have permission on etc. or they just give the dogs the slip. I killed 2 today we had another 3 get away.
it's a blast and gives a lot of guys a shot opertunity at a coyote that may not get a chance any other time

I am out of Salem Indiana. I have alot of land that I have permission to hunt. But even then we loose some to roads. Last week I just got permission to 130 acres from a farmer just south of town from me. I had enough balls to knock on his door, and the first thing he said was I would pay you to kill as many as you can get out of here. I told the old man I would not charge him a dime. At first I think he thought I was calling them in, when he found out I had dogs he said as long as your dogs don't do the damage the coyotes have been doing to my sheep and chickens have at it.
I went out there today right before dark and got one about a half hour after I got there. I went just a few yards into the first field and I saw one about 20 yards from the gate. I hit the breaks and pulled the latch to the dog box and the stags had him rolled up in no time flat. It was a great catch and I know where I am going back to tomorrow!
But you are right Lonnie, it is a blast and yes it does give alot of guys a chance to shoot one that would otherwise be missed.

Lefty, Here is a link to what a stag is buddy. This is the best way I can tell you what kind of dog the stag is. Now keep in mind some hunters will take a stag and mix other kinds of dogs as well to get what they want. Some will mix bull dog type breeds to give the dog more grit. To me they come with enough grit I don't think they need and bull dogs breeds in them. www.dogbreedinfo.com/staghound.htmTim

These dogs have no problem with catching and killing a coyote. They are my best throat dogs I have.
