I have a good .223 to use and an electronic caller. Is there anything special to try or do as far as setup for yotes? I have killed one with a handgun in deer season, but never specifically hunted for them. Any help appreciated.

The most important thing when hunting coyotes is to control your scent. I do it by playing the wind. Set up downwind or with a crosswind of the area you think is holding coyotes. Make sure you can also see to your downwind side as most coyotes will attempt to circle downwind of your call. Make them come into the open where you can see and shoot them if they try to circle in you. When you leave your vehicle don't slam doors. Walk to your chosen stand keeping cover or terrain between you and the area you intend to call to. Be quiet as you can possibly be. A coyote can be laid up about anywhere. I've seen them bedded in fencerows, shelled corn fields, even in open plowed fields. I called one from 10 feet beside my stand once. I'd walked right past him on my way in to call. I have my best luck calling coyotes at first light. Right at dusk is also a good time.
Good hunting.. Coyote 6974
