My grandson will be 8 years old in march and I need to know what it takes for him to be legal to hunt the early youth deer hunt.

If he has not taken and passed the IN hunter ed course, you can purchase an Apprentice Youth Hunting License for him. A person can buy up to 3 Apprentice Licenses before they're required to take (pass) hunter ed. Thats all he will need. Good luck!
