The man that owns the land that I hunt on told me at church tonight that his son saw 2 black bears on their land. I am not here to say whether it is true or not, but IF I am in the woods this fall and a bear happens to be there also, what are my options? Can I kill the bear since we don't have a season for them? Are they protected under some odd you can't kill anything that is not in season law?

It is possible that his sighting may be accurate. KY and OH both have bear pops nearby. Technically, they are protected. However, you have to right to protect yourself from immediate bodily injury or death. DO NOT MISTAKE this as an excuse to shoot something just because it is there and then claim self-defense. The burden of proof will be on you proving that it was in self defense.
