I'm curious as to what people do w/ the coyotes they harvest? I ask this because I recently received permission to hunt a property and the owner told me they simply tossed the coyotes they shot in a ditch on the property. He is a deer hunter and he does not care for the coyotes. Is it common for folks to shoot them simply to eliminate them?

Yes that's common practice round here. Thought about trying to tan a few and sell them to buddies but doubt I would break even.

It's sad that it's to this point but it is! 2 years ago I was tickled w/ what I was gettin out of my "put up" yotes. Now it's not worth the powder your buying to dispatch one. I'll stick to huntin/trappin squirrels and possums..........they will atleast pay for the shells!

ya, in 2007, we got $20 a piece for our put up yotes. The fur buyer didn't even look at them, just counted what we had and paid us, now nobody wants them.

I take my lead from the DNR. They classify them as varmint and have no season if on private property.
Add to the fact that they are predators, and left alone can really do damage to local wildlife. I heard of a guy who had a trailcam near a den of pups, and he counted 20 fawns drug in over 30 days.
Having said all that, I'm trying to find someone that will take them too, but in the meantime - I just leave em out of the way. Like a few here, I'd like to get 1 or two hides tanned and on the wall or whatever, but its just not worth it right now.

They classify them as varmint and have no season if on private property. They DO have a season on private property, but can be hunted out of season with written permission by the land owner.

Rats in a corn crib, coyotes in a hay field, English sparrows off your bird feeder, same suggestions apply.

if coyotes killed as many fawns as wog stated he heard the DNR would close the season on coyotes and employ them as the answer to depredation .and bonus tags and the over population problems

Personally, even tho yotes kill deer, I don't think it's right to kill any animal and just leave it lay. Unless they causing some kind of damage, and you won't put them to use, I think it's wrong to shoot them. $.02
