Hello and thanks for answering the arrow tip part 1 question. I've always thought it to be just as you said, legal to keep an arrow to shoot at a squirrel or whatever (and not a deer).
I note that in KY, it is worded so that it is clearly illegal to posess and non-broadhead arrow while deer hunting. Indiana regs state:
Arrows must be tipped with broadheads that are metal, metal-edged, or napped flint, chert or obsidian.
Now, I also see these:
blaze orange must be worn as an outer garment...
A shotgun must be xxx gauges to hunt deer...
The word 'must' seems to imply that it is not legal to act in a way that is not consistant with the sentence in which the 'must' word was used. Hence my confusion in this matter.
In closing I would say the regs need to be written so that gray areas like this are better covered.
I mean if I see a reg that says "No person shall take migratory game birds:... ... With a shotgun capable of holding more than three shells, unless it is plugged with a one-piece filler that is incapable of being removed without disassembling the gun..."
By that wording, it sure looks as though it is legal to carry one if a migratory bird is not 'taken'. I know it's not.
Thanks again for letting me disuss this.
Cary

312 IAC 9-3-3 Deer Hunting Equipment......
(b) During the archery season established in section 4(c) of this rule, an individual must hunt deer only with the following equipment: (1) A long bow or compound bow that has at least thirty-five (35) pounds pull. (2) Arrows that are equipped with metal or metal-edged (or flint, chert, or obsidian napped) broadheads. (3) Poisoned or explosive arrows are unlawful. ___________________________________________________
The law does not prohibit one from carrying an arrow w/field tip in their quiver, it prohibits one from HUNTING deer with such tip. If I check you deer hunting and your knocked arrow is tipped with a broadhead, but you have, for example, 1 field-tipped arrow of your 3 or more remaining arrows in your quiver, I don't see a problem with that. Now, if I check you deer hunting and your knocked arrow has a field tip or 'other' tip on it, and the remaining arrows in your quiver have 'other' tips, then we have a problem. I know its confusing, but there is a difference.
