As far as I know I haven't seen any reported archery turkey kills on the net anywhere.
You have a story behind the kill..

I checked this bird at a place in Terre Haute called "Poffs Sporting Goods". It was there 6th turkey of the fall season.
I am not too sure they (Poffs) knew what they were doing though..... he used the deer check log to record the information and put a "metal" band (permenant deer tag) through the leg? ? ?
The story?
Wel,.....l we (my son and I) were hunting out of a "roundhouse" ground blind. My son was fast asleep (3rd morning in a row of hunting) before the sun even came up.
There must have been 20+ birds in this flock.....they were making an awfull rackett, and two of the hens were fighting over something....never could figure that out. The rest of the birds must have been having some kind of contest on who could make the most noise. My son woke up and I had already adjusted my position so that I could get a shot off.
We only had half the windows in the blind open, and the birds .... none of them offered a shot through the window I was set in. Finally several of the birds stepped into my shooting lane.
I let it fly on the first bird into my lane....missed!
The bird I was shooting at spun around when the arrow hit beside her. Two other birds ran to the exact spot where my arrow was. They had no idea what was going on. I knocked a second arrow and pulled back. By this time I had probably 6-8 birds in my shooting lane, about 15 yards out. I let the second arrow fly.... and it flew right over the birds back and hit a tree. I thought well that was it....I screwed that up!
None of the birds spooked....none! They were all still chattering and milling about. I got one heck of a look from my son as I took ANOTHER arrow from the quiver.
I knocked the THIRD arrow...pulled back again, and this time I scored! The bird rolled, got up flapping it's wings and ran about 5 yards and started flopping on the ground. NOW...all the other birds shut up, but didn't run. They were all looking at the dying bird and keeping their distance from her.....but they didn't run.
While all this is going on my son was trying to get to his bow and get a arrow out of his quiver....the birds still had no idea what was going on but they had all moved to the side of our blind that the windows were zipped on.
I slowly un-zipped one of the windows that was facing the direction of the birds, when I got the window open they were about 20 yards away, but still just milling around. By this time my son had a arrow knocked and was trying to get his release on his string. We watched for what seemed like 15 or so minutes....but none of the birds would go in the direction of the dead one.
Finally another hen got close enough to offer my son a shot and he let it fly, with a clear miss. His arrow did the trick on running the birds off though.....they ran to the top of a small hill and milled around up there for at least another 20 minutes.
It was a fun and exciting 30-45 minutes of action.
Never seen a deer while on stand!

camby, congratulations on a fine bird. I was not there, but, when you dealt with Poff's I am sure they did NOT know what they were doing. This comes from years of experience with them. Gander Mountain will shortly put them out of bees-wax. Again, congratultions!
