Hypothetically, someone shoots a buck AND a doe... goes to field dress them and the "doe" has spikes that are JUST legal.
My hypothetical hunter is a stand up guy, so he calls a CO and reports his error.
What's the fine?

Over-bagging on antlered deer......Misdemeanor court costs of $159.50, plus fine-assessed by judge, AND a $500 replacement fee for the deer. Loss of equipment and/or hunting privledges can also be invoked. An honest mistake reported to the officer PRIOR to check in....depends on the officer and his interpretation of the totality of the circumstances and other factors deemed significant by the officer. I've hammered guys for doing this and using the same excuse. Their downfall was that they tried to cover it up instead of picking up the phone and reporting their mistake. I've also been called to this situation shortly after it ocurred and left the guy with a verbal "be darn sure of your target next time" speech and a deer permit for the 'extra' deer, minus the 'extra' antlers.
