I found this statement online regarding the tagging requirements for deer:
The deer head must remain attached to the carcass until the tag is attached and locked at the deer check station.
Therefore, I assume that it is illegal to quarter or debone a deer to get it out of the field. Am I correct? I hunt a few areas hilly enough and far enough from legal vehichle access that getting them out whole is quite a bit more difficult than quartering them and stuffing them in a backpack for the hike out.
