Dick's has a great deal on the 700 varmint rifles through this friday for $450.00! This includes a camo stock, x-mark trigger, heavy 26" barrel and a scope. The available calibers are .223, .22-250, and .308. Any ideas or suggestions? I am picking one up this week.

I saw that. If it was a dedicated varminter I was after, I believe I'd go with the 22-250.

Too bad they dropped the .222 Rem. Chambering, so go with the .22-250.

I still shoot the Remington Model 660 in .222 caliber. It's a sweet shooting rifle for sure. If I were to buy another Remington it would be the 22-250 to give me more range and power. Unless it was a Remington R15 and then I would go with the .223 cartridge as they are more readily available and should be around for a long time since that's the round that the USA uses in the armed services. Too bad they dropped the .222 Rem. Chambering, so go with the .22-250.

Your prefered bullet weight and velocity may determine the best cartridge. If you want 35g @ 4k fps you don't want a 308. If you want a 168g bt Match bullet you don't want a 22-250. The 22 cal's shoot a little cheaper than the 30 cal. The 223 is a little easier to find than the 22-250.

Too bad they dropped the .222 Rem. Chambering, so go with the .22-250. I havea model 788 Remington in 222 caliber. I love the way it shoots, but I hate buying ammo for it. 22 bucks for 20 rounds. I really don't shoot it enough to do the hand loading thing, but I might have to start. 222 is getting hard to find around here.
