i saw it in the DNR fishing regulations , but i just went to the web site and it stated that its only for lake Michigan tributaries, the St. Joseph River and its tributary streams. the hand book was not so clear.

That would explain it. It applies to Lake Michigan Tribs, the St. Joe River and its tributary streams from Twin Branch Dam downstream to the MI state line. It limits one to fish with only one single hook per line, or one artificial or harness for live bait. Single hooks on artificial baits cannot exceed 1/2 inch from the point to the shank (kinda of like measuring brace height on a bow). Double and treble hooks are only allowed on artificial baits and cannot exceed 3/8 inch from point to shank.
