As you being a Conservation officer and with all the debating on the HB1221 spot light ban bill that is now going on. My question for you is not your stance on the bill, but the question is. On what percentage of the time you when you check someone that is shining a spot light are they legal,(without a firearm, bow, or crossbow) in their vehicle. I am going to make a guess and say that 95% of the time that you make a stop when you see someone spot lighting that they are legal and the other 5% you stop are the ones looking to do illegal activities. Am I even close on my guess? I really feel that when the general public sees someone spot lighting they think it is a poacher that is up to no good when in reality it is a hunter that is scouting for deer and doing it at night while not in possession of a weapon. I do plan on asking my local two CO's in my area the same question for their input. The service and the job you guys perform is appreciated.

I do not know what the percentages would be. I know we typically do not receive calls until a shot is heard. If people would call in and let us determine if the person is legal or illegal, the system would work better instead of making the assumption either good or bad.
