I have a couple of questions about the depredation "hunting" - as I have never done it before and I am now hunting a new area that the land owner normally gets the permits - LOTS of deer eat up his crops.
1) The approved firearms will be listed on the permit? (was doing some reading)
2)I know I can keep any meat from them and no antlers, where do I turn in the antlers?
3) Do I have to check the deer in anywhere and how do I go about it if needed?
4) I assume the hours for hunting are the same?
5) is there anything else I should really know or keep in mind being a hunter on the depredation permit? (beyond normal safety and hunting)
Thanks

For the most part, these questions will be answered when you get the permit because they are on the permit. The deer does not have to be chaecked in but you typically have to call and advise the local district office that you have taken a deer under permit number ???? using tag number ????. As far as what else you need to know, I would encourage you to use a lot of discretion. If you are shooting in an area that typically doesn't have a lot of gun shots, talk to the neighboring landowners to advise what you are doing. This will prevent them from calling in and reporting hearing shots being fired. I also would not do it in a field next to a residence that is hosting a family get together. They will call in. It doesn't bother us to get the call but it will start to bother you when you deal with a separate Conservation Officer or county deputy every time you try to utilize the permit. Always carry a copy of the permit with you. I know it is printed on the permit but for some reason, the shooters listed on the permit seem to overlook this. If you have any further questions after you recieve the permit, let me know.
I am not avoiding answering your questions but the permits are not completely the same every time. I do not want to tell you one thing and then the permit say something different. I hope that makes since. IC 14-22-28-2 Conditions and rules Sec. 2. Notwithstanding any other prohibition or requirement of this article or the rules adopted under this article, the director shall prescribe the following: (1) The manner of taking the wild animal. (2) The expiration of the permit. (3) The rules the director considers necessary. (4) The disposition of the animal.
