I'd love to Pigeon, but already have a deer hunt planned for that weekend with Solohunter from this site.....
I would definitely like to try it another date though...You'll have to forgive my ignorance, but what all will I need??? I have a comprehensive lifetime hunting license, but I'll still need to buy a waterfowl stamp correct? Anything else?
My shotgun is a Mossberg 500....what choke do you use? What size shells, specific gear, etc???
Again, I greatly appreciate the invitation.....

The opening morning is a awesome morning to be out. Duck are un-aware of whats about to happen. No chance in sliding the doe hunt back or forward a weekend. Early duck season is only 6 days long,, then we have a little break again. You wont believe how many ducks will be in the area on the 14th. ;D ;D ;D

Definately don't go..... Do you value your homelife, friends, job??? THEN DON'T GO! Every duck that Pigeon kills UP THERE, is one less that makes it way down to us waiting in central Indiana. LOL.

My shotgun is a Mossberg 500....what choke do you use? What size shells, specific gear, etc??? You will need to get a Federal Waterfowl Stamp also. You can get these at your local Post Office. $15 And you will need to get a HIP #. 1-800-WETLAND. Have your license info ready and then answer their survey. At the end they will give you a # to write down. You need to have the # with you while hunting. The Mossberg 500 will do fine. I would go with a MOD choke. Shells. Make sure your gun will chamber 3" shells. Myself I shoot Remington Nitro Mags 3" #2' and BB's. The IN YOUR FACE ACTION we will see on opening day, #2's is all you should need. Waders are optional. We will be hunting along the river bank and waders give you alot more room to shoot vrs sitting in the blind. Good camo waders and coat is a must if your outside the blind. That should be about all you need. I have all the rest of the gear. This will be a river hunt on the St Joe outside of Elkhart.

He's making stuff up jstall... A .410 is the perfect waterfowl gun, loaded with 8's will do the trick. These guys with their 3" and 3 1/2" shells are just wasting money! Waders are a waste, just use some old cut off jeans and tennis shoes for the wading parts.... And Elkhart is pretty warm in late October so wear a t-shirt!

But hey....I'll try anything once. OK...So I have a lifetime hunting license, I also need the federal waterfowl stamp and HIP #. Can you guys provides some links to shells, waders, other gear you guys have tested/like. And BSU....no links to "Get R Done" T-shirts....it aint that warm up here in Elkhart in October! Thanks Pigeonflier and others!

If you dont have waders, I wouldn't worry about them just yet. You might not like it. I have a pic of my boat and blind on another thread. You can hunt/shoot right out of that without getting in the water. A good set of waders will run between $150-200.

Dont spend to much yet. Go out and love it first and then sell your bow and buy waterfowl gear.

All kiddin' aside... It's the most fun you will ever have while totally freezing your arse off! It's addictive and truly unlike most other kinds of hunting. You can play the game with minimal investment, and then on the other side you can spend more money than you can ever imagine.
Waders are essential, but John is right....go make certain you like it first...then get some. Some fellas aren't too keen about slipping into chest deep water not knowing if their next step is going to be over the "edge"!!!
Shells - depending on what your gun will chamber go for the max size....3" or 3 1/2". I shoot "cheap" loads which for a box of 3 1/2" you are still dropping $18-$20 per box. Don't go out buying non-toxic loads other than steel at first....it's way too expensive IMO. #2 shot will do for ducks and geese.....or you can get specific shot for geese which would be your BB's or "T" shots.
As far as decoys, calls, other gear.....beg, borrow, and steal from your friends till you decide you are hooked.......THEN make those investments. For now, you need a gun, shells, licenses, a place to go, and someone who knows enough to show you a fun time at waterfowling!
Good luck.....hope ya get hooked!!!!!!! (but are a bad shot!)

don't forget your plug!! and waterfowling just sucks its not fun at all especially when a buddy(no names) puts decoy heads on backwards, another buddy wakes up late, its just a muddy mess sometimes.

One upside to what Art is trying to tell ya, if you go ahead and get the layout blind now.....you can always sleep in it when the wife tosses you out!
