On this deer if it's taken in the next few days. I think it would make a nice hair on tanned hide, but only if the hair won't slip out since it's in transition from summer to winter coat.

No it won't slip(if properly cared for), it will be just like it was the day you kill it. Slippage is caused by bacteria. So when you kill it, get it skinned and to a tannery asap and properly cared for. It will be best to take this to a taxidermist who can do it correctly. Otherwise, read up on salting and fleshing at taxinet.com

Would you really shoot that little skipper?

Unfortunately it's a moot point now. The trail cam pics show only one or 2 spots showing now.
Would I shoot it? Yes, if it still had the spots. I think it would make a good throw for the couch in the living room. Besides, it'd be pretty tender! I came across one that was about that size that the vultures were picking clean. From the sign in the woods, it was moved around a couple of times by 'yotes. I put a camera close, but not on the carcass and got a few pick of 'yotes coming and going.
No sign of any arrow damage, so I don't know why it died.
