I don't know about you, but there is something awesome about a goose falling out of the air. That spalt hitting the water is comprable to little else in the world....
We were set up in a small pothole where we most often shoot wood ducks and mallards. for some reason, two geese decided they wanted to land. Our calling to them sorta closed the deal. 5 of us were hunting, two kids, and three adults. We had spread ourselves across one side of the pothole to cover different angles and allow 5 guns to stay safe. I and one other hunter standing next to me had head on shots at the geese. blam, almost simultaneously, they both flinched and fell. one fell with 10 feet of us- we actually got wet from it hitting the water!
The other also fell close, but was not dead yet- crippled and dying, but swam a little. My dog went after it. He brought it back- a little bigger than he is used to, but he did fine! He has become much more calm this weekend- getting better every trip.
Took another kid on his first duck hunt. He didn't shoot a bird, but got a shot at some wood ducks. another new addict. that is four newbies on the year!
