i saw the largest flocks of sand hill cranes on Sunday that Ive ever seen together. they were three different flocks flying in circles together and must have been 150 birds in all. took then 10 minutes of so to fly past me. most of the time i see them in small flocks but this one was huge. h.h.

They are impressive birds for sure. We have a ton of them up here in Steuben Co. My buddy from Ohio was over last weekend and he commented that he'd never seen so many. We passed 4 different fields on the 12 mile drive to the hunting grounds Saturday afternoon that had cranes in them. Sunday we saw a flock of probably two dozen soaring high over my house.
They are a cool bird.
A buddy of mine shot a couple up in Canada a few years back. That is an impressive photo when a 300#, 6'3" guy holds up one of these birds and it dwarfs him. He said they are awesome table fair as well.

I've heard them referred to as the Flying Ribeye. Never tasted one personally. I can see why they are protected if they taste that good!

I heard them up in Kosciusko County last weekend while deer hunting, never heard or seen them up there before, so they must be doing pretty well.
