Just got an email from my landowner contact in S. IN (sorry won't be anymore specific than that for obvious reasons). This is the place that I've been trying to take a feral hog off of for the last couple of years but just haven't been in the right place at the right time....YET ;D He has found someone that is bringing in some hog dogs and we're gonna hit it this coming Sat....up close and personal with knives and/or spears so that the dogs don't get hurt from a stray shot. I've been wanting to do a hog dog hunt for years in SC but whenever I'm there it's always been deer season and ,well, those guys would rather deer hunt for some reason I'll see if I can take some pics and keep y'all posted on how it goes.

Good luck and be careful. The knife may be safer for the dogs, but not necessarily for the hunter. My buddy lost the end of a finger last year to a hog.
Dogs will flat out put a hurtin on hogs too. A guy I know has some. Might be the same guy? If not and he is from southern Indiana, the guy I know probably has hunted with him or had something to do with putting the hogs there.

Thanks SquirrelH and GS! I'd forwarded on the original email to my next door neighbor since he's gone on one of the SC hunts that with Dan and I. He's fighting a blood clot in his leg or would probably be wanting to tag along too. However....he's very much into the medieval fighting scene (heads up the local chapter that meets at the university) so he called last night and said he had some "things" for me Since he knows the only PP carry gun I've got a little LCP 380 he loaned me his SS S&W 357 along with a very nice "pig sticker" AND a home made spear that he really wants to see come back with piggy blood on it You just can't ask for a better neighbor than that!!! Man am I getting stoked!!! Just hope the hogs around now Last summer there were several times when I was there that I wasn't finding any sign that any fresher than maybe a week at best...but then last summer there mostly beans in the river bottoms and all of the regular mud holes had dried up

I've got some pics-who wants them??? Man what rush!!! Guys got there with the dogs from Corydon, KY about 10 and had them out running by 11. We split off into two groups with most of the dogs staying with the group I went with. We'd been out about 20 minutes when a couple of the dogs took off towards where the other guys had headed. Tracking collars soon showed that a couple of the dogs had stopped in one spot which meant they probably had something bayed. Of course they were about a quarter mile away so off we went. Finally most of the dogs got there and it was easy to tell where they were then because of the barking. They'd bayed up and stopped about #200 boar that I got the pleasure of dispatching with the pigsticker that my neighbor had loaned me-he said he wanted to see it get bloody! It had a good 2" cutter on one side but the other side had been broke off recently-it still managed to get a good hit in on one of the dogs that took some staple fixing...grrrr Luckily the dogs had stopped it about 100 away from another road so it was an easy drag to get it out and loaded up. Got that one out and iced down then hit the other side of area that we hadn't made it into first-an area that is usually thick with hog sign but this time unfortunately nothing was there Finally about 3 they decided to hit another spot about 20 miles on down the road that they had permission to hit. Handshakes all around, info/contacts exchanged and a good time was had by all!! The landowner thinks that he'll probably have them back on a little more regular basis so there may be more reports to come. Understand they took down an even bigger one at the next area they went to. These guys say they usually go down to the SC/GA area at least once a month but they'd rather make the drive up here so that will help out too. One of the "local" guys that was there has a website that he said he would put the pics/videos that he took so some one wants to know that site PM me and I'll let you know the site...he goes by "indianashogman" on that site in case anyone else here may already know about it. All in all it was certainly fun but sure was a lot walking, jogging and just a little bit of running so this fat old man is now hurting and feeling like a fat old man!!!
