I read in the Indiana hunting and trapping regs that treestands amay be left overnight only between Sept 1 and Jan 10. I spend a lot of time walking on HNF land and always find treestands left out all season. I found numerous stands this weekend still up. i also found one hang on stand that has at least 20 screw in tree steps in a nice popular tree. Should a person report the stands to the local CO or not.

Yes. We highly encourage the public to contact us with information about violations that they observe. Our officers are limited in numbers and cannot be every where or see everything and we appreciate any help from the public that we can obtain. By contacting the Conservation Officers about violations, you are helping to continue the ethical hunting and outdoor activities that we all enjoy throughout the state of Indiana. If violations are left unreported, it will have a lasting effect not just for you and I but in generations to come. The tree you described is a perfect example of an individual that is concerned with what he wants today and not about how that tree could be used in the future. On behalf of our officers, I thank you and the people like you that understand the importance of our laws and regulations as well as your willingness to go the right thing.
