One was reported sighted on one of the properties I hunt a couple weeks ago here in Lawrence County. I have seen bobcats and bobcat tracks on this property before though, and with as many people that do not know the difference between a bobcat and a mountain lion, I am a little skeptical.

I've always said, when they confirm it 44 times, I'll believe it. Well, by gum, I believe it!

Missouri has over 12 million acres of Forest, plus the Ozark Mountains so the state can provide habitat to MT Lions.
Some Missouri Biologist believe that within 5 to 10 years there will be a small breeding population of Mountain Lions in the Ozark Mountains of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas.

They are in fact in Southern Illinois too - aside from the State confirmed sightings, I have a good pal that lives In Madison County, good outdoorsman and hunter. He has seen one twice, both at night crossing roads. I think they will continue to spread - the researchers say mostly males spreading out for new territory for now. There is a good website for the Eastern Cougar Network of Eastern Cougar Foundation that has the latest on confirmed occurrences, including a few in Indiana I nthink
