Is it not illegal to hunt from a UTV? It is considered a motorized vehicle correct? I was setting a trap line for coyotes midday today when I come across UTV tracks in the pasture. The UTV tracks go up to a fence row and then back up and turn around going back the direction it come from but then exits a gate 30 yards away then leading into a corn field, I noticed 1 set of foot prints leading from where the UTV turned around and followed them to what was a gut pile in the middle of the picked corn. The UTV tracks that exited the gate some 30yard from this point also went to the gut pile.... I looked all around for a tree-stand in the pasture but found nothing...this would lead me to think the persons were hunting from the UTV.

Yes, it is illegal to hunt from a motor driven conveyance. However, a special handicap permit can be obtained for those individuals that have a qualifying disability which allows them to hunt from a stationary motor driven conveyance. My recommendation is to contact the Conservation Officer in that area through our Central Dispatch Center at 8128379536. The Officer would be willing to investigate the situation and determine the legality of the events that occurred. Information on illegal activities is always appreciated. Conservation Officers are limited in number and therefore, limited on the number of places they can be at one time. Information provided by the public is a huge asset to our officers. Even if the information leads to confirm that the activity was conducted in a legal manner, it never hurts to look into an event that has taken place. Thanks for any help you can and will provide to assist in the protection of our Natural Resources.
