So this question is one i had never thought of until last night when it happened to me while duck hunting on a very small island in the Wabash river, small enough to not have be owned or marked on the GIS website. If during shotgun season a deer crosses the river and come on to the island that i am hunting ducks on can i legally shoot it? Barring I have orange on and a rifled slug on hand.

Under most circumstances, the answer is yes. However, the limitation occurs while you are duck hunting. Federal regulations prohibit the possession of shells loaded with anything other than non-toxic shot while waterfowl hunting. Therefore, you are restricted by federal regulations from possessing the ammunition legal for taking a deer in the state of Indiana.
