looking for some tips on how to hunt these critters. I have a friend with some really good river bottom ground that has been seeing a lot of coyotes lately. What are the best times to hunt? Should I use a blind? Guns? (shots could range from 80 to 300 plus) Shot placement? I have never been coyote hunting and would really appreciate any tips you guys could give me. I think it could possibly make for some really cool video. Thanks in advance.

they are very smart, camo is good thing to start with, scent block next, always stay down wind from them, i use a .223 AR15, any .22 is good( .22mag,.222,.223.22-250... rabbit distress is the best right now.. with a couple howls, they will come running.. shoot for the chest,.. good luck

set up downwind of where you are calling them from, any .22 or .24 centerfire or shotgun with #4 or bigger shot. Nite time is the most productive and EXCITING IMO. just use a red lense on your light and slowly cast it back and forth looking for their eyes

DHP, Google "varmint al" You will find a helpful website that will get you started. I made the "el cheapo" caller that he instructs you how to make and have had great success with the call sequences he has listed that you can down load for free. Be careful though, when that first yote comes flyin in on that call, you will be hooked Have fun! I think I am going to slip out right now. As cold as it is those yotes should be looking for an easy meal.

Scent lock is useless, night hunting will produce more eyes but fewer kills for the beginner.
If the coyotes are relatively unhampered by other predator callers, go in after them in daylight hours with standard distress sounds and watch the wind direction.
Take a look at some of the indepth discussions on Midwest Predator Hunters for more details and information as they pertain to the art of calling coyotes. Cookie cutter answers to these questions will rarely produce anything useful- I reccomend a closer evaluation of each topic.

I agree, save your scent lock for deer huntin' playing the wind to YOUR favor is much more important. Hit 'em at first light on these nasty cold days.......
