OK I am lost here. I need more detailed information to understand what you are saying. I heard #4 shot talked about but is that steel shot, lead shot or heavy type shot. The type of metal that the shot is made form makes a huge difference.
I am sorry to be so detailed here, but the devil is in the details. LOL
Call me pickey I guess.
The reason I ask it because I have some #4 shot from Winchester that didn't tell me on the box what type of metal they uses to make the shot pellets. I know they did this on purpose. I paid a premium price for these shot gun shells. I only got ten of these shells for a very high price. The box reads Winchester Supreme High Velocity Turkey Loads STH1234. These are 12 gaguge, 3 inch 1300 FPS velocity 1 3/4 oz #4 shot. Are these shot made out of lead, steal or bithmuth or a combination of metals?
I only purchased one box of these at Walmart or maybe it was from Gander Mountain.
I went to the Winchester Web site but could not figure out what these pellets were made out of.
I hate sneaky sales techniques.
I really want to know what I am buying but they won't tell the consumer. I call that sneaking marketing.
From now on I'll be asking more questions of the sales clerks before I put down my money
I ask you guys as maybe you know what these shotgun shells are made from?

Ok please forgive me. I am three sheets to the wind right now after drinking 4 ounches of 101 proof Wild turkey. So I appologize up front. But how far away were you when you shot at this yote? Range matters to me a lot. At 30 yards #4 shot steel may kill a yote if you hit it good. But at 70 yards the same shell may only wound the yote. So please tell me the estimated range that you shot the yote from. The devil is in the details. LOL I am trying to learn how different types of shotgun shells work at different ranges. BTW that Hevi Shot is the best out there but that stuff is sooooo expensive. The density of the shot makes it more effective at longer ranges. But at what cost? Killed another one today but not with the #4 buck i shot 2 times at it with the #4 buck and hit it , finally got it with the dead coyote i'm not giving up on it yet I just loaded with 2 #4 buck and the 3 shot I loaded a "dead coyote"

Your shells are lead #4 shot. #4 shot will have 150 -200 shot per shell and made for small game or turkey.
lonnie was talking about lead #4 buck shot which is quite larger. 2 3/4" # 4 buck has about 27 shot per shell and will kill out to 50 yards or more. buck shot is grade in size starting with 00 - #4, 00 being the largest. h.h.

the 3" hevi-shot dead coyote is pretty close to "T" shot, somewheres around 65 pellets, I believe.

Sorry for the delay in responding
Like has already been posted the #4 shot I was talking about is #4 buck , it has 54 pellets about .23 caliber size and is made from lead and I have killed a few coyotes at the 60 yard range just in the past few weeks. "dead coyote" loads in the 3 1/2 inch have 57 pellets about .20 caliber size it cost around $32.99 for 10 shells and the #4 buck is costing about $8 for 5 shells
#4 shot you bought for turkey is not affective on coyotes at ranges that I'm talking about .

Thanks for the information. I am sober right now and it's making a lot more sense.
I'll have to get some new shells to shoot coyotes.
