Quartering a deer in the woods

If one hunts on public ground and they shoot and kill a deer and tag it electronically, can the hunter then quarter the deer in the woods and backpack the meat out? Forgot to add that the sex of the animal would be attached along with the meat.

This would be legal as long as you have documented your confirmation number of checking the deer in as required. Have a safe hunt.
