Lsat week when we had the snow my brother shot a small buck which we field dressed about a 100 yards behind the house. The next night I fell asleep on the couch. I got up to go to bed about 1:30 but before going I looked out the patio door and due to the snow and full moon saw this critter having his midnight snack. Always being prepared, my 22-250 was setting by the door. It was a simple matter to slide the door open a couple inches and end his meal. That was a lot simpler than explaining to my wife what the loud noise was that had so rudely woke her up. Not really, she just asked what fell over and I stated a coyote, she is a good wife, I think I'll keep her. This is the second coyote I shot this way. Two years ago the wife spotted one eating on the pile at 10:00 in the morning which also went to doggie heaven.

Only good yote is a dead one. That's not true, What if you had a pet coyote that would lure and call in other coyotes for you? That would be a good coyote

Only good yote is a dead one. I whole heartedly agree, if a deer and a coyote are standing side by side, the coyote is the one that is going to DIE.

Hahaha, I just told my wife your story and asked if she would be ticked if I did the same and woke her up. She gave me "the look"! Lol. BUT, said no she wouldn't care and surprised it hasn't happened yet. Lol. Congrats.

Even though they are quite a nuisance, I do have to admire and respect their tenacity and cleverness. Predator hunting just wouldn't be the same without them!

I've read of guys using "driveway alarms" stationed over a backyard bait pile to alert them when a coyote was feeding.

I seem.to always catch possums and coons on bait piles. Generally trapping you want to set twenty or so yards away. I learned the hard way after catching a crow and red tail hawk. The hawk was not fun to release by the way.
